Position Overview

Southcoast Health is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Orthopedic Traumatologist physician to join our esteemed Orthopedic Surgery and Trauma & Acute Care Surgery team consisting of 25 physicians supported by 24 Advanced Practice Practitioners. The successful candidate will contribute to our tradition of practice excellence and play a pivotal role in advancing patient care in our community.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnosis and Treatment of Musculoskeletal Injuries

  • Evaluate and manage acute traumatic injuries such as fractures, dislocations, and soft tissue damage.
  • Treat complex fractures, including open, comminuted, and pelvic/acetabular fractures.

Surgical and Non-Surgical Care

  • Perform orthopedic trauma surgeries including fracture fixation, joint reconstruction, and limb salvage procedures.
  • Provide non-operative care such as casting, bracing, and physical therapy referrals.

Emergency and Trauma Response

  • Participate in trauma call rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work in emergency and trauma center settings to provide immediate care for severely injured patients.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Coordinate care with trauma surgeons, intensivists, neurosurgeons, and rehabilitation specialists.
  • Engage in trauma committee meetings and contribute to trauma program development.

Patient Management and Follow-Up

  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans and monitor recovery progress.
  • Provide long-term follow-up care to ensure proper healing and rehabilitation.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and peer review processes.

Education and Training

  • Stay current with advancements in orthopedic trauma care.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution
  • Board certification/eligibility
  • Fellowship trained in Orthopedic Trauma & Joint Replacement
  • Current state medical license and DEA registration
  • Demonstrated clinical excellence, patient satisfaction, and effective communication skills
